Upland Sandpiper
When I posted about this bird last Wednesday, I thought it was taking a break while migrating further north, but this morning I saw 2 of them enjoying the brown ants in our driveway and a 3rd landed a little farther down the drive. I hope this means they will stay.
While hanging out on the porch enjoying a nice day before the temperature gauge plummeted, I saw a mockingbird chasing a crow. They landed in the top of a brush pile. I didn't realize there were 2 mockingbirds until I uploaded the pictures.
Then the crow took off.
And one mockingbird followed.
Leaving the last little mockingbird all by himself.

Fantastic images Betty, I love the first one, superb.
ReplyDeleteI love the mockingbirds letting the crow know he can leave. This is my tree! Great capture, Betty.

Well done great captures. Cheers Diane
ReplyDeleteIt's always such a surprise to see a Sandpiper when you don't live on the beach! We see them every once in awhile here too. Beautiful photos of the 3 birds too!
ReplyDeleteThe sandpipers are SOOOO cute ... and I love it when little(r) birds chase off bigger birds ... I am always in the corner for the little guy!
ReplyDeleteAround here, the upland sandpipers stay about 10 days. Enjoy those while you can!
ReplyDeleteFor sharing with us at I'd Rather B Birdin', I thank you!!
Hello.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! I like your blog.
Greetings from Galicia
Wonderful series of photos of the different birds.
ReplyDeleteThe first picture is really great.
Best regards, Irma
Love the Sandpiper photos as well as the rest. Great captures. Glad to see all the bird pictures as my week didn't lend well to birding. Hope you have a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to see smaller birds chasing bigger ones... they just harass them until they leave I guess. Interesting about the sandpiper -- I think of them only as shorebirds, so I definitely learned my one new thing for the day this morning.
ReplyDeleteyou got some really good shots of teh sandpiper. Love them :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the mockingbird chasing a crow! Neat pictures!
ReplyDeletegreat snaps!! it was so interesting to see the size difference between the crow and the mockingbird. i consider the mockingbird to be a good size bird and it looked so tiny up against the crow!!
ReplyDeleteso nice to have little surprises when you upload pictures!! you captured the upland sandpiper well, i too hope he stays around!!
A huge difference in size between the mockingbirds and crow!
