The Bird D'pot

I can't explain how excited I was, and still am, to find these eagles. I have only seen 2 others in my lifetime. My husband called to tell me he saw 2 eagles in a dead tree and gave me the location. I grabbed my camera, keys, and ran out the door. Eagle pics are now checked off my bucket list. Color me happy!

Saturday Critters

There's a new horse in town. She's a beautiful palomino.

Driving the long way into town, I came upon this cute little guy enjoying his hay.

I've been keeping my eye on the mares about to foal in this pasture. Time must be near since they have all been moved to the barn. Can't wait to see the babies.

The Weekend Roundup - M

This week's assignment: Starts with M, Favorite, and Many.

Starts with M: MEADOWLARK starts with M. This happens to be an Eastern Meadowlark. He was singing me a song. :)

Favorite: MOTORCYCLE starts with M. This is my favorite MOTORCYCLE rider. He is riding his favorite Harley.

Many: I'm not sure how MANY cows are in this picture, but there are a lot MORE that you can't see. I should have taken a panoramic shot.

Just Because: I am a MORNING person. Nothing better than enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch as the sun comes up. Good MORNING sun.

And Finally: Green happens to be my favorite color. There was a break in the trees above, which allowed the light to highlight this patch of MOSS. The bright green caught my eye. The MOSS is facing north on the south side of a creek.

Busy Thursday

Today Hubs had an appointment for some routine tests at the hospital in Ardmore, OK. This was new territory for both of us. Sadly, I forgot my camera. It's a little over an hour drive through some beautiful country. Next time I won't forget it. We were happy to discover there is a Whataburger in Ardmore. Guess where we had lunch? Yep! Yum!

We did stop by to visit a friend. While they were busy trading and telling tall tales...

...I went out to pet a horse nose or two. This paint is a favorite of mine.

But I also really like this bay and roan. They all came up to see if I had carrots. Sadly, the carrot lady didn't bring carrots.

We drove the back road on the way home. Not many critters, but did see a couple of turkeys in the weeds.

We were enjoying the evening on the porch until the neighbor's cows decided to walk by. Gus had to run down to the fence to bark incessantly. It was so noisy we decided to go inside.

And that's the excitement of the day. :)

Wednesday Drive

The day started out with a beautiful sky. The hummingbird feeders are filled and waiting. The hummers should be arriving soon.

This little barn and pasture caught my eye. Nice colors.

On down the road I saw what appears to be a bridge. It ended inside a mass of brush, so I'm thinking the title "A Bridge to Nowhere" would fit.

If you look closely, there is a Black Vulture perched on the roof.

Goodnight sun. Thank you for a beautiful day!

Have a wonderful day!

Back Road Rambles

Monday's Ramble

We had a problem with our electricity today. Gus likes to eat repairmen, so I took him with me for a Back Road Ramble. Right outside our gate, wild flowers were beginning to pop up. My plant app identified this one as an Anemone, but it didn't recognize the white flower.

This red bud tree was growing in a fence row.

So when I got home, I checked the little one in our yard. Two tiny little blooms were sprouting.

I stopped to take pics of these two beautiful horses, but they were afraid and ran into the weeds. It isn't a great picture, but I kind of like the way the weeds frame them. I think they would be considered appaloosas.

I ended my drive by checking to see if the eagles were in the tree they have been visiting the past few days. There was only one, but he is magnificent.

The perfect end to a fun ramble.

Random-osity

The Good: Possibly severe thunderstorms were predicted for us over the weekend. The storm passed us by. It made for a pretty eastern sky.

The Random: I ordered two bi-colored butterfly bushes from Gurney's earlier this year. They send them out when it is time to plant. They arrived in early March, but due to our unseasonable long winter, I had to keep them safe until Friday when I finally put them in the ground. I also planted some purple iris bulbs a friend dug up for me. I still need to plant sunflower seeds along the storage shed. Hopefully, winter is over.

The Fun: Meet Gus. Doesn't he look like a sweetheart? Don't be fooled. He is very protective of the food lady and Frisbee tossing dad. Since we moved to Oklahoma, he has been my photography assistant. When he would see deer, a coyote, or some other critter worthy of my camera, he would run to the door and bark at me. I would grab my camera and go out to see his discovery. Oftentimes, his due diligence ended with some awesome pics.

However, this spring, something seems to have changed. Now, instead of running to bark for me to get my camera, he is staying outside and barking at the critters. I then grab my camera and run out, usually to find he has scared said critters away. I think he needs retrained.

The Bird D-Pot

Birds have been few and far between over the winter months. I'm happy to say some are back.

My first sighting of a Cormorant was last spring. I only saw one.

This year I found a tree full with several swimming in the pond.

The Weekend Roundup - L

This week's prompts: Starts with L, Favorite, and Long.

Starts with L:  LLAMA starts with L and this one was enjoying a warm, sunny morning.

Favorite: This LOGGERHEAD Shrike sure is a handsome LITTLE guy. He waited around until I got all the pics I wanted before flying away.

Long: This great blue heron sure does have a LONG neck.

Just Because: LEAF starts with L. These LEAVES tell me my butterfly bush made it through the winter. LOOKING forward to seeing the blooms.

And Finally: President LINCOLN is always good for an L.

The Weekend Roundup - K

This week's prompts: Starts with K, Favorite, and Kind.

Starts with K: KITTEN starts with K. This is my grandson trying to convince his mother to take this KITTY home. Happily, it belonged to the neighbor, so the answer was NO.

Favorite: KINGFISHER starts with K. She is a beauty.

Kind: This young lady is KIND to all animals. Here she is blowing a KISS to Bella.

Just Because: KISS starts with K. This was a KISS under the mistletoe.

And Finally: KEEP out starts with K. This sign makes good use of an old tire. Creative.

Weekend Roundup - J

Today's prompts: Starts with J, Favorite, and Jump

Starts with J: This is a JAR filled with apple pie moonshine. It was tasty. I'm not a big drinker, so only had a taste. Hiccup! JUST kidding. :)

Favorite: I'm starting to see a better variety of birds. The Dark-eyed JUNCOS are back. They are busy birds and really hard to capture.

Jump: Gus loves to play fetch with his ball. Here he is JUMPING up to catch it. Then he bites it so it will squeak. I guess it's his version of 'the kill'.

Just Because: Anyone who knows anything about Blake Shelton is aware he is from Oklahoma. He opened an Ole Red bar/restaurant in Tishomingo last year. We go for lunch occasionally. His mother opened up a store at the end of the block called JUNK Stars. It has antiques, used items, and crafts. It's a great place to browse. Don't you love the JUNKIE old truck stuck on the side of the building?

And Finally: A night shot of last October's pumpkin carving party. JACK-O-LANTERS at night.
