Weekend Roundup - A

This week's assignment: Starts with A, Favorite, and Ample.

Starts with A: AIRPLANE starts with A. When I was young, my dad would pile my brother and me into the car and drive us to our little town AIRPORT just to watch the planes take off and land. Those simple afternoons planted a seed that never went away.

The real thrill came when my cousin took us up in his small plane. He shut off the engine and we descended rapidly. My mouth fell open from the sensation, and when I tried to close it, I couldn’t. I was very glad I hadn’t eaten before the flight!

That love of AIRPLANES has stayed with me ever since. I’ve often daydreamed about learning to fly, but life got busy and the dream moved to the back burner. Still, every time I hear that familiar engine roar overhead, I always look up.

Favorite: A guardian ANGEL stands at the edge of an old graveyard we found on a backroad ramble. Her wings are gently spread as she leans forward on her pedestal, one hand resting thoughtfully near her face. Moss and time have softened her flowing robes, yet she keeps quiet watch over the graves beneath the sheltering trees. On misty mornings she feels almost alive, a serene guardian bridging past and present, offering silent comfort to every soul who rests nearby and every visitor who pauses to remember.

AMPLEOur Thanksgiving table groaned under the weight of AMPLE food this year: golden roasted turkey with all the trimmings, creamy mashed potatoes, savory stuffing, sweet potato casserole topped with marshmallows, fresh green beans, cranberry sauce, and flaky homemade pies. Family recipes filled every inch of space, with seconds (and thirds) happily encouraged as laughter and stories flowed around the table. There was more than enough to feed our hungry crew and still fill the refrigerator with leftovers, reminding us once again how blessed we are to gather and share such plentiful goodness.
