The Bird D'pot

I was out of town most of last week, so didn't get to search for new birds.

All photos taken in Coal County Oklahoma.

We had quite a bit of rain on Friday. Mr. Dickcissel took advantage of the water puddle outside our kitchen window.

This Eastern Meadowlark spent lots of time looking up. I couldn't see anything up there but clouds. I think he was messing with me.

We have several Bluebirds nesting around us. This little lady sat on the fence railing even though I was sitting on the porch. She kept her eye on me though.

When I first saw this Bluebird, I thought it was a baby. It was on the ground with its wings spread. Since then I've decided it was a hot female trying to cool off.

The morning we left for the airport, I saw the birds I've been waiting for. Painted Buntings. Early morning light kept me from getting good pics. I'm posting them anyway so my son can see what they look like. This is the male.

And this is the female.

I keep hoping they will stop by again, but no luck so far.

Saturday Critters

My photo assistant, Gus, barked his "I've found a critter" bark to get my attention. I grabbed my camera and ran outside to find one lonely deer crossing the hay field.

He was quite a distance away, but still stopped to pose when my assistant barked again. (zoom used on both pics)

Armadillos have always interested me because they are most often seen dead-on-the-road. However, since moving to Oklahoma I see live ones on a regular basis. I did like seeing them, note the past tense, until I woke up to my newly finished butterfly bush area torn to pieces. Mr. Dilly also dug several holes in the yard, removed some bulbs I recently planted, and almost dug a redbud tree out of the ground. Not feeling kindly toward armadillos anymore.

This is the culprit. He is living under our storage shed. (photo credit goes to DC who opted for a camera rather than the gun) I'm not sure which I would choose.

On a happier note, this little cutie pictured with pups Willie and Buddy, graduated high school a few days ago. Can't believe she is all grown up and off to college in the fall. Miss my little granddaughter, but am very proud of the young lady she has become.

The Weekend Roundup - U

Today's assignment - U, Favorite, Under

U is a tough one, so I went for the obvious first, Umbrella.

My favorite pic would be this Ugly vulture looking at me taking his picture.

Under #1 is granddog Evie. She was sleeping under the table.

Under #2. Stacking hay under the roof.

Because I just came home from my granddaughter's high school graduation and because she got an awesome scholarship I will advertise this University.

How about one more? This meadowlark is looking up.

If you want to have some fun, how about playing along? I enjoy having something to hunt for during the week.

Floral Friday

I love flowers of all kinds, but I'm partial to wildflowers. A friend of mine recently said she called them 'ditch flowers' as a youngster. That name fits these perfectly as both varieties are growing in ditches.

All pics taken in Coal County Oklahoma.

Wild Bird Wednesday

Pics taken in Coal County Oklahoma.

Mr. Blue Grosbeak posed out in the hay field.

Mrs. Blue Grosbeak finally stopped by. She enjoyed bathing in one of the puddles left by the rain last week.

Eventually she went out to visit the Mister.

The Bird D'Pot

Green Heron. He posed quite a while.

Then he turned his back to me.

And hid in the weeds.

Deer across the road from our mailbox. Gus likes to bark at them. When he does, they pose for the camera.

Wild Bird Wednesday

Mom and Dad and a friend taking the babies for a swim.

Mr. Heron enjoying a sunny day.

Until he saw me. Then he slowly made his way to a tree where he thinks he is camouflaged. Silly guy.

I'm going to be out of town, but wanted to post anyway. My granddaughter is graduating high school.

The Bird D'pot

These barn swallows were inspecting our porch. I'm sure with the idea of building a nest. One ended up trying to fly inside through the window. It flew away, so I'm hopeful it is okay.

I believe I have this one identified correctly. Indigo Bunting in transitional plumage.

Gus took me to the park where I got to see this snowy egret wading in the shallows.

Mrs. Bluebird stopped by for a visit. She must have been taking a break from the nest.

This cardinal was perched on the top of a dead tree. I thought he looked nice against the blue sky.
Happy Mother's Day!

It's Critter Day!

It's been a while since we've seen Mr. Coyote. He was hurrying across the hay field this morning. Fortunately, I happened to look out the window at the right time.

Someone posted a 'save the turtles' post on Facebook. It said we should stop, pick up the turtle, and take him to the other side of the road. I didn't stop, but I did make sure I drove around him. Of course I had to take a picture first.

This is my favorite wagon in the wagon train that went by last week.

It has a doggie door. :)

This horse is hiding behind a tree. Perhaps because he is in time-out. He wasn't nice to his rider. Yes, he tossed him off. He was sore and had a bruised ego, but otherwise the rider is okay.

Happy Critter Hunting!

The Weekend Roundup - S

The assignment for this week is: S, Favorite, Silver.

S: I do believe Snake starts with S and Hiss ends in S. Scary!

My favorite this week is Saddle.

Silver Stirrups anyone?

And for good measure, how about a silver mule wagon? Airstream of the mule train variety.

And just because I have an extra, how about cows resting in the shade. We've been having some hot weather. Spring seems to have given way to summer already.
