Weekend Roundup - J

This week's assignment: Starts with J, Favorite, and Junk.

Last week's assignment: Starts with I, Favorite, and Intricate.
I'm posting both today since I missed last week.

Starts with J: JAIL starts with J. This particular JAIL is located in Dodge City, KS.

Favorite: My favorite is always a horse. Meet JUBE.

Junk: This is one of the sculptures in downtown Sioux Falls, SD. It is comprised of pieces of JUNK which the artist formed into this guitar.

Now for last week's post.

Starts with I: This sculpture of INDIANS is located in the courtyard of the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum in Cody, WY.

Favorite: A horse, of course. This is Nero scratching an ITCH on this H post. The horse flies seem to be exceptionally bad this year.

Intricate: This is another sculpture from downtown Sioux Falls, SD. Notice the INTRICATE detail on the whale.

Weekend Roundup - H

This weeks assignment: Starts with H, Favorite, and Heavy.

Starts with HThis is my week! H = HORSE  What makes me HAPPY? Well, HORSES make me HAPPY. I'm especially HAPPY while watching colts at play, running, jumping, and chasing each other in the pasture. This little guy was having a nap before I woke him up.

Favorite: This is my favorite HORSE pic from last week. Whiskey makes a wonderful subject. I don't like to say Whiskey is my favorite, but he might be. The other HORSES don't seem to like being around him. I wonder if it is because he is white.

Heavy: As you can see, these HORSES are well cared for. They have plenty of grass and are still provided with feed every morning to keep them HEALTHY. They are HEAVIER than most HORSES I see in other pastures.

Just Because: This little piggy, I mean Horsey, loves carrots. He is HOVERING over the bag, waiting for me to hand him a tasty treat.

And Finally: This is a HERD of HORSES racing to get to the feed troughs.

I happened to be in Walmart to pick up a prescription last Wednesday. I overheard one of the clerks telling a lady they had the over 65 flu shots in and if she needed one to get it quickly as they would be out soon. They are expecting to give a lot more than usual this year. So, if you haven't done so and need to, better get yours. We went the next day to get ours. Last year we had to search and wait. Hope everyone is happy and healthy. Have a great weekend!

Weekend Roundup - G

Today's assignment: Starts with G, Favorite, and Green

Starts with G: Whiskey enjoys GRASS. He spends the majority of his life GRAZING.

Favorite: Meet Nero. He is GALLOPING toward the truck bringing bags of feed.

Green: This Ruby-throated Hummingbird is GREEN and he is surrounded by GREEN sunflower leaves.

Just Because: This is my GUN. It stays loaded with snake shot. I take it with me when I go walking in the woods, across the pasture, and near the pond. We have a variety of poisonous snakes and they are not hard to find. So far, I haven't had to shoot one, but at least I'm prepared if the need arises. Notice it also provides a hint of GREEN.

And Finally: This is Whiskey, again. He is a male horse that has lost something of importance to him which makes him a GELDING.

Weekend Roundup - F

Today's assignment: Starts with F, Favorite, and Full.

Starts with F: FLAG starts with F. Hubs and I took a drive looking for FLAGS to post. Some you may like, some you may not, but they are all FLAGS. We do still live in a FREE country, so each FAMILY has the right to FLY their preference. There is one from our trip to Yellowstone. You might be able to FIND it.

Favorite: This FLEABIT Roan is one of my FAVORITE horse pics.

Full: I took this pic of FULL grocery carts to send to Hubs to let him know what was taking me so long to buy groceries. This was during the toilet paper rush, although the lady in front of me had a cart FULL of beer. Hmm. Silly me, I only bought my usual supply.

Just Because: There is a cafe called BOOMERANG near us. They still serve root beer in FROSTY glasses.

And Finally: This little FAWN stops by with her mother occasionally.

Weekend Roundup - E

This week's assignment: Starts with E, Favorite, and Evergreen.

Starts with E: My favorite birds are EAGLES. This is one of my all-time favorite pics.

Favorite: This little lady is my all time favorite EQUESTRIAN. I might like the horse too. Sadly, she isn't a little lady anymore. But she is still my favorite granddaughter. Well, okay, my only granddaughter. :)

Evergreen: Yellowstone has a lot of EVERGREEN trees.

Just Because: This fella has one brown EYE and one blue EYE.

And Finally: This is the first time Hubby and I went out to lunch after the restaurants opened up. The restaurant was EMPTY. No need to practice social distancing here.

Hope everyone is staying cool. After a few weeks of really hot days, we have cooled down to 81° with a nice breeze. Feels good.

Colt Update

The babies are not babies anymore. They sure have grown. This little fella is my favorite. He's in the middle of changing colors. Wish he could stay like this, but I'll never get to see him as an adult. He will be sold to some lucky new owner.

With mama.

The Weekend Roundup - D

Today's assignment: Starts with D, Favorite, and Dark.

Starts with D: The best thing about living in the middle-of-nowhere are the critters. This mama DEER had twin babies. Sadly, I only got pics of one. The other twin hid behind the loafing shed. Maybe I'll be lucky next time they stop by.

Favorite: DEN is a DUN horse.

DarkThe shade tree made the picture DARK. The break in the leaves allowed the sun to shine down on that pretty face.

Just Because: This is my little DRUMMER boy when he was still little. He has been playing the DRUMS since he was a wee one.

And Finally: During migration, we had a lot of DUCKS on the pond. This is a Ring-necked DUCK. His whole family stopped for a couple of weeks. They were fun to watch.

What the Heck: I can't possibly consider a D post without my favorite DOG. This is Gus enjoying his new DOG bed.

Weekend Roundup - C

This week's assignment: Starts with C, Favorite, and Couple.

Starts with C: CLOUDS start with C. It was a CLOUDY day, but they soon passed and the sun came out. I might post this one again next week. It is my favorite picture taken of Devil's Tower. I like dark clouds. I fell in love with them when I discovered El Greco's painting titled View of Toledo. I think I was in the 6th grade.

Favorite: This COW was lounging in the sunshine on the way to Devil's Tower.

Couple: Of course, I can't have a post without a horse. How about a COUPLE of CURIOUS horses on a hill?

Just Because: This CONTINENTAL DIVIDE sign was in Grand Teton National Park.

And Finally: How about a CUTE little CAROLINA wren? I think they are the loudest bird we have around the house.

Weekend Roundup - B

Today's Assignment:  Starts with B, Favorite, and black.

Starts with B: This is a BISON, one of many I took pictures of during our visit to Yellowstone last month. Some confuse BUFFALO with BISON, but they are not the same. Typically, we call them BUFFALO in error. BUFFALOES are found in Africa and South Asia, while BISON roam in North and South America. BUFFALO AND BISON are related. They are both from the BOVINE species. I have always called them BUFFALO and will probably continue to do so.

This is a BLACK BEAR, also from our visit to Yellowstone. We saw tons of signs warning to watch for BEARS on the road. We were disappointed not to see one during our first couple of days there. But then our luck changed. I think I was almost as excited to be able to get this pic as I was my first eagle. It was rambling alone on the far side of a creek. This pic was taken out the truck window. Even though it was quite a distance away, I am not a brave soul. We saw another one the next day. She had 2 cubs with her. She was leading them through the trees, which kept me from getting a clear pic, so I put my camera down and watched them.

This BEAR was one of the Sculpture Trail we enjoyed during our visit to Sioux Falls, SD.

Favorite: Well, you know I must try to find a way to put a horse in this spot. This is BEAUTIFUL BONNIE. Not only is she a BEAUTIFUL lady, but she is gentle and doesn't mind toting a saddle and rider on her back.

Black: We have had a lot of vultures around our house for the past few days. Pictured are American BLACK Vultures, although there were plenty of Turkey Buzzards mixed in. At one time I counted 13 flying and 7 in the trees. I think there must have been a dead cow in the pasture behind us. They give me the creeps, so Hubs went out with the rifle and shot at the tree trunks to scare them away. So far, so good. I hope they stay away. My feeder friends don't like having them around either.

Just Because: During our vacation, we stopped in Cody, WY to visit the BUFFALO BILL Museum.  Yellowstone and the whole area was under a winter storm watch. As you can see, it was snowing. We are used to June being blazing hot and only brought light jackets. We'll know better next time.

This is a portrait of BUFFALO BILL Cody.

And Finally: On our way to Yellowstone, we stopped in Dodge City, KS to visit the BOOT Hill Museum.

This is one of the graves on BOOT Hill.
