I haven't been to an auction in years, but went to one today. A rancher had sold his house and property and chose to auction ranching equipment and two horses.
This is a palomino going for a test drive.
This is our friend watching the test drive and planning his bid.
This is the horse just before the auction started. He was nervous, obviously sensing something was going on.
While he was being ridden, his lady friend was upset, snorting, and pacing. She is a Fleabit Roan. Yes, I asked and was told that's the proper name for this white horse with brown flecks.
She was a beauty. She was sold first.
Our friend won the bidding contest. The palomino was loaded up and ready to go see his new home.
He is being turned loose in a section fenced off from the other horses. Nice shady pen.
Here he is getting acquainted with the other horses and Socks, the mule.
It was hot, but turned out to be a fun day. Now there is a new horse to win over with carrots and apples.

Weekend Roundup - Z
This week's prompts. Starts with 'Z'. A Favorite. Zandy.
Starts with Z - Zebra starts with Z. This guy is a resident
of the Smithsonian.
A Favorite - Zeus. This fountain is near the capitol in D.C.
Zany or is it Zandy? The prompts mentioned in last weeks Roundup says Zandy and this week's post says Zany, but they are kind of the same thing - This little guy really isn't zany or zandy, but he
looks a little zandy in this pic.
I give you these zandy rodeo clowns. If they are not
zandy/crazy I don't know who is. On this night they were not protecting cowboys, they
were actually fighting bulls.
Just Because - How about a Zebra skeleton. Also in the
Smithsonian.
And Finally - A real live Zebra. He is a resident of the St.
Louis Zoo.

Wild Bird Wednesday
I believe this is a Painted Bunting. I'm not sure if this is a juvenile or a female. If you make the picture larger, it looks like a little blue peeking through on the side of its head. Any ideas?

The Barn Collective
I need to get out and try to find more barns. This one is on a hill overlooking the highway.
This isn't a barn, but I suspect there once was one nearby. The cows are enjoying a little shade under the trees.
These Round bails will soon be heading for someone's barn somewhere.

The Bird D'pot
Flop or Not?
Coal County, OK. These are all shots I could have deleted, but kept even though they are far from perfect.
Damp Dicksissel
Damp Bewick's Wren
Eastern Phoebe's rough take-off.
Female House Finch contortionist.
Damp Hummingbird
Blue Grosbeak. Winding up for take-off.
Damp Bluebird. Looking to see if more rain was on the way?
Damp Meadowlark
Female Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. And she's off!
We've been having our share of rain. Can you tell?

Saturday Critters
All photos taken in Coal County, OK.
This fine looking Paint Horse found some tasty weeds on the other side of the fence. Hope he didn't scratch his neck on the barbs.
It came a gully washer last Wednesday. On the way to town we saw this turtle on the far side of the road.
The first katydid I've seen this summer.
Love this critter. This is Gus. He loves riding in the truck, but hates storms. We are having another gully washer this morning. He's hiding under the table.

Weekend Roundup - Y
This weeks Prompts: Starts with "Y". A favorite. Yellow.
Starts with "Y" - Egg YOLK. This chicken salad, which included eggs with YOLKS, was served at Ole Red in Tishomingo, OK. Blake Shelton's restaurant. He lives nearby and will occasionally stop by to play a tune or two. Sadly, not when I've been there.
A Favorite - This YELLOW wildflower. Found during one of my back road rambles in Coal County, OK.
Yellow - How about this YELLOW covered wagon which was part of a mule train.
Just Because: How about a YACHT or two on this cloudy morning in National Harbor, Maryland.
And Finally: A YUMMY lobster roll from Mason's also in National Harbor, Maryland.
Come give Weekend Roundup a try. It's my favorite!

Wild Bird Wednesday
Great Egret
I've been trying to get an in-flight shot of this egret for weeks. I see it flying over at least once or twice a week, but have only gotten blurred shots, so I'm happy with these. They are not great closeups, but you can actually tell it is a bird. :)
Later, I drove by a pond where I thought Mr. Egret would be and sure enough, he was there.

Random Monday
The Good: The evening sun gives these horses the appearance of being clothed in velvet.
The Random: Bella enjoying a cool breeze after a day of heat.
The Fun: Not sure I would call this fun on a day as hot as this one, but this guy seemed to be enjoying himself. He waved and smiled as he rode by.

It was a busy morning. In addition to birds, Gus rustled up 4 bucks with fine looking antlers. I sure do like mornings in the country.
