It's Barn Time

We don't see many barns like this in Oklahoma. This type of barn always reminds me of my home state of Illinois. This one looks like it has a few defects, but still it's in pretty good shape.

Happy Sunday!

Tuesday Treasures

On one of my backroad rambles, I found this sign at the entrance gate to what used to be a 'horse farm'. I've never heard a ranch called a farm before. I like it. Cool old sign, too!

The Bird D-Pot

It's a hummingbird kind of day.

This guy looks a little angry.

This fella was only four feet from me. None of them seem to mind me sitting on the back porch watching them.

And back to the angry guy.

Happy Sunday!

The Weekend Roundup - C

Today's assignment: Starts with C, Favorite, and Center.

Starts with C: CHICKADEE starts with C. This happens to be a black-capped variety.

Favorite: Driving COUNTRY roads is one of my favorite pastimes. And this one proves Oklahoma isn't flat, as some of my Illinois friends think.

Center: This CHURCH has three CROSSES on the front. The largest CROSS happens to be in the CENTER.

Hope ya'll have a wonderful weekend!

The Bird D-Pot

I got to add a new bird to my life list. I was on my way to Sulphur, OK when I saw a massive amount of birds flying around an overpass. I thought they were bats, so I pulled over to get a pic. They were not bats. I took lots of pictures and then pulled up my bird app. They were Cliff Swallows feeding their young.

I've never seen nests built quite like these.

When I got home, I saw this Barn Swallow on a wire.

Guess it was a Swallow kind of day.

This is Whiskey running toward the feed truck. He sure is a handsome guy. Sadly, he was sold shortly after these pics.

Weekend Roundup - B

Today's assignment is B: Starts with B, Favorite, and Black.

Starts with B: An Indigo Bunting starts with B. This pic was taken in May, but he and the Mrs. are still hanging around. He sure has a pretty song to wake up to. And bonus, he's blue.

Favorite: My favorite always seems to be a horse photo, so here's my favorite this week. Two mamas and a baby.

Black: How about a baby goat all dressed in black? He sure is cute!

Happy Weekend!

Ditch Flower Day

When my daughter came to visit a couple of weeks ago, I took her on a back-road-ramble with me. There are always flowers growing along the road and in ditches. Some are the variety normally seen around a manicured lawn. These are most likely growing where a house once stood. Others are wildflowers. I like finding both. Here are three we found.

Happy Friday!

Mr. Hummer

Every evening about 7:00 p.m., Gus pokes my leg with his nose and keeps poking until I acknowledge him. Interpretation: It's bunny time! So, off we go to look for bunnies. I sit on the back porch and Gus runs back and forth along the fence, only stopping when he spots a bunny. If they sit quietly, like a statute, he never sees them, but they know he is in backyard fence jail, so they are not scared. Once he spies a bunny, the frantic barking begins. Barking makes him thirsty, so eventually he gives up and takes care of business one last time before bedtime. Then we go inside.

This evening, as Gus was hunting bunnies, there was a hummingbird trying to drink a little nectar. He doesn't like me to be on the back porch, so he perches himself on the fence and waits patiently for us to go back inside. I do believe he was giving me the stink eye!

Happy Tuesday!

Chickasaw National Recreation Center

I had a guest visit from out of town last week. So took her to the Chickasaw National Recreation Center in Sulphur, OK. We stopped to see the buffalo, but alas, they were off in the wooded area. I hope to see them next trip. Then we made a U-turn due to the road being flooded. I don't think it was deep enough to cause a problem, but we decided better safe than sorry.

The Tavertine Nature Center provided lots of good information about the park.

There are several falls throughout the park. This is one of them. Swimming is allowed and there were several takers on the day we were there.

I wish I had time to take bird pics. Maybe next time.

Weekend Roundup - A

Okay, so it's been a long time between blog posts. I've been busy. I finished a novel, edited it, run it past two beta readers, and was critiqued by the writer's group I'm in. I guess you could say I've been busy. But I'm back for now. Not sure how long, because I'm currently editing another novel. Since I've been having blog withdrawals, decided to start posting again. I'll start with a favorite of mine, Weekend Roundup. So here we go ...

Today's assignment is the letter A. Starts with A, Favorite, and Ample.

Starts with A: This poor fella is ANXIOUS to get loaded and head out for his new home. Unfortunately, his new owner and old owner were too busy trading horse tales to take care of business.

Favorite: This is Jube and Kemosabe enjoying a cool drink after a hot day. Two of my favorite horses.

Ample: This scissortail-flycatcher's tail is AMPLE.

Plus, we sure have had AMPLE rain so far this year. And guess who had to wade in the water to open the gate. That's right, ME! It was only knee deep. :)
