The Weekend Roundup - P

This week's prompts: Starts with P, Favorite, and Pretty. I'm drawing all my pics from a visit to Remington PARK in Oklahoma City. Hubby's stepson is a trainer so we got a tour of the backside of the track.

Starts with P: PADDOCK starts with P. This is the area where the horses are saddled before a race.

Favorite: I absolutely love gray horses and always root for them during a race. This horse was my favorite of the night. He gave me my big win of the night. A $2.00 ticket to show. He came in 3rd, so I won a whopping $4.80. Yes, I am a big time better. I took $12.00 to the betting window throughout the night. Subtracting my winnings, I ended the night with a deficit of $7.20. Not bad for all the fun that $7.20 gave me.

Pretty: This PRETTY horse is named Speedy Fella. He wasn't scheduled to race, so missed seeing him in action. I hate to call a male horse PRETTY, but he sure is.

Just Because: PRE race PREPARATION in the PADDOCK. This is one of the horses stepson trained. He is PREPARING to race. He had a rough start and was last for a while because of it, but ended up 3rd. If only that other horse hadn't been in his way he probably would have won.

This is him with the jockey walking to the gate. PRETTY IN PINK.

And Finally: You can't have horse races without jockeys and this one is a treasure at Remington PARK. His name is PAT Steinberg.

Weekend Roundup - O

Today's prompts are: Starts with O, Favorite, and Open

Starts with O: OZARKS starts with O. Took this picture on one of our trips home from visiting daughter.

Favorite: This is one of my favorite sky pictures. OMINOUS starts with O. We have been having lots of rain and some storms. This picture was taken one evening as rather OMINOUS clouds were moving in from the southeast.

Open: The door to this OLD OUTHOUSE is OPEN.

Just Because: You can't have too many pictures of OUTHOUSES, right? I've posted both of these pics before, but I was a little hard up for Os. This OUTHOUSE is in much better condition.

And Finally: The above OUTHOUSE has interesting items hung on the wall. I learned a new word from one of the signs. Samson's Stimulating ONGUENT For the Hair and Whiskers. I had to look it up. Seems it is a french word meaning ointment or salve.

And Now, Really Finally, But of Most Importance: This is the award the person who saved my husband's life received. It is signed by OBAMA.

Weekend Roundup - N

This weeks prompts are Starts with N, Favorite, and Near.

Starts with N: NECK starts with N and this buck is stretching his NECK to reach a tasty leaf.

Favorite: This is Gus. He is taking a NAP.

Near: In order to feed carrots to the horses, one must have their fingers NEAR those big teeth.

Just Because:  This NEON sign is on the wall of Ole Red in Tishomingo, OK. Blake Shelton's bar/grill.

And Finally: An N post wouldn't be complete with a NOSE picture. This is Gus resting in an odd position while we were traveling.

Saturday Critters

I've been having internet connection issues, so I'm behind on visiting other blogs, but will get around as soon as I can.

We had somewhere between 15-20 inches of rain a week ago. I looked out the window and saw this coyote foraging for food in the torrential rain. These pics are taken through the window. I wasn't as interested in getting soaked as this coyote.

I'm told the coyote found a pocket gopher for his supper. I haven't heard of them before, but I researched and it looks to be correct.

After the coyote disappeared, I saw this killdeer poking around in the grass. Also during the torrential rain.

The Weekend Roundup - M

The Weekend Roundup

This weeks prompts are: Starts with M, Favorite, and Many.

Starts with M: While visiting South Dakota, I saw several of these odd METAL posts atop fire hydrants. Hubs informed me they were Snow MARKERS. Handy to keep snow plows from bumping into the hydrants during their brutal winters.

Favorite: Monarch

Many: Even though it was late in the season, there were still MANY enthusiasts enjoying a late summer swim at Turner Falls in Oklahoma.

Just Because: Adult MOCCASINS and baby MOCCASINS in a display case in Wyoming.

And Finally: How about a shot of the MOON.

Weekend Roundup - L

The Weekend Roundup

This week's prompts: Starts with L, A Favorite, and Lonely.

Starts with L: This fine looking LONGHORN cow. Her calf was nearby, but sadly walked into the wooded area, successfully hiding from my camera.

A Favorite: While on our vacation, we got to spend some time with family. LUCKY us, grandson's band performed at a football game while we were there. He has the beautiful L, which stands for LINCOLN school, on his uniform.

Lonely: While in South Dakota, we stopped at a scenic outlook prior to entering The Badlands. I couldn't resist taking a picture of this one LONELY tree with the badlands in the distance.

Just Because: I found this LANTERN hanging in a covered wagon displayed in the Wyoming visitor's center.

And Finally: We took our dog son, Gus, with us on vacation. He needed to go potty, so we had to stop. I saw this strange statute of LINCOLN at the first rest stop in northern Colorado. At first I thought he was Elvis.

The Bird D-Pot

Looking for some help identifying this one. When I first saw it, I thought it was a chicken, but when I got closer I could tell it wasn't. I tried to get a better shot, but it kept moving away.

These pictures were taken in south central Wyoming.

Critter Day

We can't seem to pass by The Badlands and not take the scenic drive. These Big Horn Sheep were the only critters we saw this trip through.

The rest of my critters were easy to photograph. All held their pose until I got the right shot. :)

This cougar hangs out in front of the Wyoming welcome center. I've taken lots of pictures of him during our trips there, but this one is my favorite.

I don't remember seeing these fawns there during previous trips, but they are near the welcome center entrance.

This longhorn is peeking out from above the The Longhorn Bar and Grill is in Sundance, Wyoming. This is where hubs and I enjoyed our first meal as a married couple. We were married at the Crook County Courthouse in Sundance. Seemed like an appropriate location. :)

This ranch entrance is along the road to Devil's Tower. A bear was taking a nap on the top. :)

Well, that's my critters for today. Hope to get out and find more for next week.

Favorite K: Showing a little puppy love with an air KISS.

King Size: This is Buddy. Buddy is a sturdy fella with a KING sized backside.

Just Because: How about another KINGBIRD? This time an Eastern KINGBIRD.

And Finally: Yet another bird. This time a female Belted KINGFISHER.

The Weekend Roundup - J

Today's assignment: Starts with J, Favorite, and Juice/Juicy.

Starts with J: JUXTAPOSED two pictures of this female painted bunting to compare front to back.

Favorite: This is Socks. He is one of my carrot loving friends. He is a male mule and therefore a JOHN.

Juice/Juicy: Limes are JUICY. these were particularly nice squeezed into a bottle of Corona.

Just Because: Since this barn is in Oklahoma, I'm fairly certain the letters on the roof used to be OU, but they sure look like JU to me.

And Finally: This is a female turkey, also known as a JENNY.
