Barns and Birds

I drove by this barely there barn several times. The first time, it was overcast and the horses were nowhere to be seen...

...but the next week, there were grazing in the foreground.

These pictures were taken in the spring in southern Oklahoma. Anyone know what it is?

  1. Beautiful places, and, the horses standing free. I love the bird, but I don't know the name, maybe it is a something like finch?

  2. Do you have Red-winged Blackbirds in your area? I could be far off the mark here, but it might possibly be a female Red-winged Blackbird. The females in no way resemble the males.
Maybe Eileen at Saturday's Critters or Anni at I'd Rather B Birdin' will know for sure
    Have a wonderful day!

    1. This pic was in Oklahoma. The females we have here in Illinois are plain, more like a sparrow. I'm still searching, but no luck. Thanks.

    1. Thanks. It does look sparrow-like. I'll see if there is one of these in my book.

  4. ...oh dear! This barn or do I say former barn sure has seen better times. I see it's cousins around here. Let's hope that the horses keep their distance. Thanks Betty for stopping by, how about coming again!

  5. Hi Betty. That was a difficult one but I think it's a Dickcissel - Spiza americana.

  7. That is a sad old barn! I recognize the Dickcissel as it is a common summer resident in the prairies near our second home in Illinois.

  8. I think the bird is a female dickcissel...look up dickcissel and go to All About Birds then scroll to the bottom and look at female dickcissel.

    Love the horses and barns.

  12. Beautiful shots! I thought the bird looked like a type of sparrow but I see other commenters have identified it as a dickcissel, such a pretty little bird.
