Saturday Critters

I've often wondered why these birds are called cattle egrets, so this morning I decided to look up the answer. It's because they are often found foraging near cattle. Duh! :) In other parts of the world, if they are around elephants, they would be called elephant egrets or rhinoceros egrets. It depends on the animal.

Cattle egrets benefit cows by acting as a pest control service, feeding on parasites and insects such as flies and ticks that are on or near cattle as they graze. This is a mutually beneficial relationship. It helps reduce the insect-related problems for the cows and provides the egrets with a food source.

Weekend Roundup - B

This week's assignment: Starts with B, Favorite, and Bridge.

Starts with B: Barn

I'm finding a lot more interesting barns in Illinois than in Oklahoma. This is one of my favorites so far.

Favorite: Buffalo

Since I don't have any new pics of horses to post. I'll share another impressive creature.

Bridge:

A kayaker's view of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, where I-495 (Capital Beltway) crosses the Potomac River.

Combination Sunday

I'm multitasking this morning. I've been preoccupied with Hubs. He had pneumonia and has been in the hospital. Fortunately, he is out and much better.

I drove by to check on the mamas and look what I found. A baby! Isn't she cute?

Then there is this little guy, equally as cute. I tried to get a pic of the one laying down when he lifted his head, but my finger wasn't quick enough. He was enjoying the warm sunshine. The Mamas were on alert.

The Blue Grosbeaks are back. I saw this guy a couple of days ago.

I found a red barn. They are few and far between around here.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm getting ready to go to Illinois for my grandson's high school graduation, so will be missing for a while.

Barn on April First

I've taken lots of pictures of this barn, and posted some. I couldn't resist another shot since it looked especially nice on this spring day.

Barns and Birds

I drove by this barely there barn several times. The first time, it was overcast and the horses were nowhere to be seen...

...but the next week, there were grazing in the foreground.

These pictures were taken in the spring in southern Oklahoma. Anyone know what it is?
