I'm running behind with my Week in Review post. Hopefully I can remember an event from each day.

1/6/18 Saturday

Spent the day at the Double E. There was work to be done. Guess DC was supervising. 

After the work, there were steaks on the fire pit...

...and a Corona or two with a little lime.

1/7/18 Sunday

Rained all day. Spent a lazy day inside. Nice view from the kitchen window, though.

1/8/18 Monday

The rain stopped and the sun came out. It was a beautiful day for a walk and Gus was tired of being cooped up. He needed to run. So, dragged out the old walking stick and took off for a ramble.

1/9/18 Tuesday

Went into Ada for groceries in the morning. Followed these poor cows on their way to market. 

1/10/18 Wednesday

In the afternoon, took Gus for a walk to the front pond. He sniffed around, started digging, and then attacked some small critter. I'm thinking it was a mouse. Thankfully, it got away.

Went to the dollar store in the evening. The road looked a little spooky at dusk.

1/11/18 Thursday

DC's birthday. Daddy got a new pair of work boots. Later we had dinner with friends. It was a fun day.

Took an evening drive. This little lady was walking down the road with a few friends. The friends took off and left her on the road, for a second or two, before she disappeared over the fence.

1/12/18 Friday

Drove into Oklahoma City for a routine Doc visit. We had lunch at Whataburger, of course, and then had a visit with one of DC's former work friends. He had a nice little pond in the back.

On the way home we passed a prison. They always require a picture, but DC didn't want to stop, so snapped it out the driver's side window.

The Week in Review

Saturday 12/20/17

Friends invited us to go to The Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The weather was supposed to turn cold, but it was 40 degrees when we left home. The museum was about 1 1/2 hours away. Not long into the drive, it started misting rain as the temperature quickly dropped to 20 degrees. The mist started freezing on the windshield. 

The roads were still okay, but when we got into OK City, the bridges were starting to ice. We did see one car lose control on one of the bridges. Merely a fender bender, but I don't think the driver was very happy. 

Love this statute. It's the first thing you see when you walk in the building. You might recognize a more summer-like version of this as my header. If you are ever in the Oklahoma City area, try to stop in.

Sunday 12/31/17

Nothing exciting this day. It was too darn cold to get out. I did try a new recipe - Taco Soup. Easy. It's a crock pot recipe. Tasty, too!


Monday 1/1/18

No pictures for two days in a row. It's too cold to get out. This morning our water was frozen, so we spent the morning thawing out the well and hot water pipes under the RV. Low was 9°. 

Friends invited us for dinner, so we ventured out. Gotta have those black-eyed peas for a prosperous new year. 

Tuesday 1/2/18

Still cold, so stayed in most of the day. Did venture out to take a pic of the Super Moon.

Wednesday 1/3/18

Sunshine and perfect walking temp. It got up to 48° so gave Gus a treat and took him for a walk down to the pond. It turned out to be more of a run. He was happy to be outside for a change.

The pond was still frozen.

Finally tired him out. He found a shady spot to rest.

Thursday 1/4/18

Drove into Ada today. Took the long way home to look for critters. Today was Mockingbird Day, although I did see several Savannah Sparrows and a Red-tailed Hawk having a snack on top of an old electric pole. This guy was trying to hide in a tree beside the road.  He didn't appear to like me much.

DC took me out to dinner. On the way we saw several deer standing alongside the road. These two posed for me.

1/5/18 Friday

Took an early drive this morning. The sun cast a bright yellow over the countryside. To my left I saw a tree full of what I thought was Meadowlarks, since there are so many around here. I snapped a pic.

After reviewing the shot, I rethought my identification. I zoomed closer and snapped another pic. They were far off the road, so it isn't very clear, but clear enough to identify the Cedar Waxwings with the sun making their usually soft yellow appear much darker.

A little farther down the road, I saw a flock of geese looking for a drink on a frozen pond.

Saturday Critters

This was supposed to be pictures of the horses eating hay, but the minute they saw me at the fence they came right over. They love treats and wanted to make sure I didn't have one in my pocket.

This is Little Bill. He was first. He is always first.

Dillon decided to check, too.

Bo and Sleepy met Little Bill at the fence, so Dillon decided to join them. 

Sadly, I didn't have a treat for them this time. Next time I will bring two to make up for their disappointment. 

These horses are easy to catch when you want to go for a ride. Just whistle and they come running.

American Coot

It's been too cold to do anything other than hibernate, which is what we've been doing. Dug into the archives for today's post.

This American Coot was enjoying my brother's pond in Illinois. Really like this first photo. I think he is calling me a bad name.

Tuesday Treasures

National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum

Inside the museum is a replica of an old western town. Sadly, it is really dark inside which makes it difficult to take pictures. 

This is The Thompson House. A very nice hotel and restaurant. 

 It wasn't accessible, so we peeked into the window and saw this beautiful table all ready for dessert and coffee.

Saturday 12/23/17

Took a drive into Ada for groceries with a drive down the back roads on the way home. I saw 3 hawks in different areas, but only one felt like posing.

I stopped to take a picture of another hawk, but he flew. I looked on the other side of the road and saw these cows staring back. I think they were wondering if I might be a new food lady.

Sunday 12/24/17

We spent a quiet Christmas Eve at home. This is the first time I haven't had my daughter and family home for the holiday. I missed them. The sunset was beautiful, though. This is the view from my kitchen window. I did get to talk to my son and grandson from TN, which was really nice.

Monday 12/25/17 

We spent Christmas Day at the EE Ranch. The lady of the house came down with the flu while visiting her daughter for the holidays, so she wasn't home. I volunteered to cook Christmas dinner. 

On the way we saw this cow wandering along the side of the road. Yes, she was on the wrong side of the fence. Obviously looking for the greener on the other side she had heard about.

Santa met us at the door.

After dinner, we watched a movie.

Good food, good friends and a warm fire. Life is good.

Tuesday 12/26/17

Drove into Ada. It was laundry day. I thought I would hate going to the laundromat, but I'm getting used to it. This one has an attendant. She keeps the place clean and tidy. Plus, there are TVs with music videos. Country music, of course. Nice! 

Wednesday 12/27/17

I started a quilt last month. All the pieces are cut and ready to sew. I'm not a talented quilter, so always choose the easy patterns. I'm making a 4-patch. I finally got my sewing machine out to start putting the quilt top together. As I worked on my quilt, I noticed this Meadowlark in the grass. Of course I stopped to take a picture or two through the window. 

Thursday 12/28/17

DC took me out for breakfast in Ada. Although I looked for my lost glove before, we drove back down the same road one more time. DC even got out of the truck and walked down the side of the road. Still no luck. When we got home, I decided to tidy the truck. When I took out the rug we keep to protect the console from Gus's claws guess what I found. That's right, my glove! Glad to have both gloves accounted for since the weather was about to turn really cold.

Friday 12/29/17

It is the week for finding things. One of our friend's calves decided to take a walk to find her family. Well, she has been discovered on a neighbor's ranch. Ms. 38 almost made it back to her mama, but stopped to make new cow friends about half way there.

DC and RE loaded the young lady up and took her back home where she has a newly enforced fence to keep her from wandering away again.

Wild Turkey Day

The past few days have been excellent for turkey sightings. I saw these on my way into Ada over the weekend. I stopped in the middle of the road and hopped out of the truck before they noticed me. (evening light)

It didn't take long for them to discover they were being watched. After about 4 shots, they disappeared into the trees. 

I saw the turkeys below yesterday when I drove the same road looking for one of my gloves I seemed to have lost. I thought I dropped it on the road when I hopped out of the truck with my camera. (morning light)

Sadly, no gloves were found.

However, once I got home I decided to search the truck once more. I moved the rug from the console, used to keep Gus from digging his claws into the upholstery, and viola! there it was. Just in time for this very cold weather!
