The Bird D-Pot

Looking for some help identifying this one. When I first saw it, I thought it was a chicken, but when I got closer I could tell it wasn't. I tried to get a better shot, but it kept moving away.

These pictures were taken in south central Wyoming.

  1. Neat photos! I've never actually seen one but the first thought I had upon seeing your photo was "ruffled grouse" Maybe? https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ruffed_Grouse/id
    Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

  3. Is it a Grouse? I think so. Saw them decades ago...in west Nebraska.

Your sharing is much appreciated with all of us at I'd Rather B Birdin'...thanks so much!

Ps...thanks also, for the idea on fire ants. I'm gonna do that.

  4. I would definitely think grouse of some kind. We have the spruce grouse in this part of the continent, and they actually tend to walk around very much like a chicken does.

  5. Hello, there are several species of Grouse. It could possibly be the Ruffed Grouse! I have seen them in Colorado and in Washington State. Cool bird, great sighting. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week!
